Fortunately, our Smart Film product can be installed without the need for skilled labor in the comfort of your own home.
What Is Smart Privacy Film?
Switchable glass products go from clear to frosted with the flick of switch, providing privacy on demand. This makes transforming your space faster and easier than ever before and opens up a myriad of design possibilities for those looking to balance open, connected interiors with privacy and quiet. As many residents are staying home in condos looking across at other high rises, the need for additional privacy is surfacing.
Smart Film (also known as privacy film, switchable film, PDLC film or electric privacy film) is a film that is applied to existing glass, transforming it into switchable glass. This makes it the perfect retrofit option. Smart film can be installed in a matter of hours on windows, doors and glass walls. Smart Film can even be installed in moisture prone areas such as bathrooms and sealed with a silicon gel.
Popular applications for Smart Film include floor to ceiling windows, hard to reach windows such as skylights, glass partitions and walls and glass doors. Smart Film can be operated via a wall switch, home automation system, smartphone or voice command for your convenience.

Take Your Time
While videos may show Smart Film being installed in mere minutes, we recommend taking a more measured approach. Though it’s relatively simple to install, the best results are achieved with careful attention to detail. Rushing the process can lead to unnecessary damage or errors that could affect the quality of your installation.
Do Not Attempt Smart Film Installation Alone
Smart film needs to be installed by two or more people. Trying to install window film by yourself may result in poor smart film handling and you may crease and damage the window film. Switchable smart film is an electrical product and should be wired by an electrician.
Choose a High Quality Smart Film Vendor
The most common issues with Smart Film often stem from poor product quality. Inexpensive, low-quality films may have unevenly distributed PDLC liquid crystals, leading to hazy, easily damaged surfaces that lack durability. At Smart Glass Country, we use only premium materials to ensure a clear, reliable finish that stands the test of time.
Avoid Trimming the Window Film Onsite
While privacy window film can be trimmed onsite, it should not be done unless necessary as it increases the likelihood that the film can be damaged. Smart Glass Country takes the time to precision manufacture each order to the customer’s exact specifications and add a 1/16 of an inch installation tolerance to each side for smooth installation. However, in some instances the film must be trimmed onsite such as arch windows and other irregular window shapes. In these cases, Smart Glass Country will provide specific instructions for trimming.
If you're looking to upgrade your home with a practical, high-tech solution, Smart Film is the perfect retrofit project. Whether you're improving privacy, adding a modern touch, or enhancing the functionality of your space, Smart Film is an easy-to-install, cost-effective option.
